Core Mechanic

How Rolls Work

When the outcome is uncertain, the GM sets a Difficulty (2-6). You assemble a dice pool from a relevant Attribute + Skill and roll that many d10s. Each die that meets or beats the Difficulty is a Hit. You need at least one Hit to succeed.

  • 1 Hit — Marginal success. You made it, but not cleanly.
  • 2–3 Hits — Clean success.
  • 4+ Hits — Exceptional — narrative bonus at GM discretion.
  • All 1s — Dramatic failure. Something goes wrong beyond just missing.

Attributes

The Six

Every runner is defined by six core attributes. They form the base of every dice pool. Life in in the 22nd century is strange, everyone is developing a sensitivity to the net, some more that others, but few seem to be capable of pushing it to extreme limits.

PHY Physique

Raw force, endurance, and the body's capacity to absorb punishment

REF Reflexes

Speed, coordination, and the body's ability to respond before the mind catches up

LOG Logic

Reasoning, analysis, and the capacity to solve problems the world doesn't have instructions for

INT Intuition

Instinct, awareness, and the composure to trust what you feel before you can explain it

GRT Grit

Pain tolerance, psychological resilience, and the refusal to stop functioning when everything says you should

SEN Sensitivity

Exposure to the Static — a channel that cuts both ways

Character Creation

Lifepath

You don't fill out a character sheet — you make decisions. Your Origin determines your starting resources and street reputation. Your Background narrows your professional history. Your Inciting Event is why you're no longer where you started. Your Archetype is what you do now.

Origins

Stack

Corporate enclave. You had everything the Sprawl promises and walked away — or got pushed. Starting wealth is highest. Trust from street-level contacts is lowest.

Starting Wealth High

Buffer

The middle layer. Licensed contractors, mid-tier wage workers, guild members. Comfortable until the contract ended. Balanced wealth and contacts.

Starting Wealth Medium

Heap

Street-born. Deadwire markets, grey zones, unlicensed everything. You know how the city actually works. Lowest starting wealth, widest street network.

Starting Wealth Low
The full Lifepath tables — Backgrounds, Events, and Archetypes — are in the complete rulebook. The character creator app walks you through every step interactively.

Tech-Based Magic

The Static

The Static emerged from the Silence — or maybe the Silence was the Static breathing. Nobody agrees. What's known: a small percentage of people born after 2078 can perceive and manipulate the resonance field that underlies Net 2.0. Registered practitioners carry the Brand. Unregistered ones are called Specters.

Cyberware and the Static don't mix. Every implant you carry introduces signal noise and the Static's own resistance. High chrome runners can still use the Static — but the ceiling is lower and the cost is higher.

Technomancer Paths

TechMage

Precision manipulation of the Static through structured protocols. High ceiling on targeted effects, high cost in Resonance burn.

Technoshaman

Intuitive resonance — the Static as living current rather than executable code. Broader, less predictable, harder for corps to classify.

Resonance 0 characters cannot take either technomancer path. Resonance cannot be raised through normal advancement — awakening, if it happens, is a story event.

Tools

Character Creator

The Null_Point() character creator is a standalone desktop app built by a collaborator in Tauri + React. It walks you through the full Lifepath system, calculates your starting gear and funds, and exports a print-ready sheet.
